Future Harvard Student Turns Down $40,000 Award Because of Her Faith

YOU DON'T SEE TOO MANY PEOPLE WILLINGLY TURNING DOWN $40,000 EVERY DAY BUT THAT ISN'T THE CASE FOR FUTURE HARVARD STUDENT VERDA TETTEH.

Tetteh, a 17-year-old girl from Fitchburg, Connecticut, was initially awarded the scholarship for general excellence at her high school graduation.

However, as she gave her speech at the commencement ceremony she announced that she'd be turning down the award saying,"It is such a great honor but I also know that I am not the most in need of it."

She goes onto say she's excited to see who it helps and how that changes their life and that, "I am so happy God gave me the strength to do that".

What she has done is something very uncanny and selfless that not many her senior would even do let alone someone as young as her.

Verda explained that it was her Christian faith that prompted her to give away the scholarship. The straight "A" student is more than deserving of the award but has chosen to be a blessing onto another.

More people could learn from the example this young woman has set. She has chosen to walk by faith and that is a lesson we could use more in our day to day. We should remember to ask ourselves periodically as we lament over all the longing of our heart, specifically those that are tangible or materialistic in nature, when was our last charitable act?

But we'd love to hear your thoughts! Would you be proud of you child if they did the same or would your personal circumstances determine your reaction? Comment down below.
